Nisha started training in Hindustani classical vocals at the age of 7 and learnt for about 10 years in Mumbai, India where she grew up. Alongside classical, she also learnt and sang Bollywood songs, her genre of choice being the evergreen melodies of the legendary late Lata Mangeshkar. She then took a break from formal training to pursue further education and a career while simultaneously pursuing her passion in music. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and has had a career as a full time IT professional at a leading IT firm for nearly 20 years. She resumed formal training in Hindustani Classical in 2011 in the USA, initially from Pandit Jasraj Institute in Edison, NJ for about 6 years training under Smt. Lalita Mathur and Padmashree Pta. Tripti Mukherjee. Since then she has been learning from Mumbai based Hindustani Classical vocalist, Pallavi Joshi (granddaughter of Pandit Gajananbuwa Joshi).
She has performed Bollywood and Regional cover songs to private and public audiences of 1000+.
Nisha decided to take a break from her full time IT career in 2017 and engage in teaching Indian Classical singing to beginners.
She currently teaches Hindustani Classical Vocals and Bollywood/Light music at her residence in Belle Mead, NJ and online. Her student base includes children of all age groups (5 and over) as well as adults.
Hindustani Classical Vocal lessons
for beginners
This class is designed for kids and adults who want to start learning Hindustani Classical Vocals. The curriculum starts with a focused regimen on "Alankars" which is essentially the alphabet and the core foundation of everything that follows. So it is absolutely necessary that the student has a good understanding of this before proceeding. The next step would be delving into "Raags" and "Taals" which is the main agenda here. In the process, various key classical concepts and terminology would be taught.
Bollywood/ Regional
Includes devotional and other light forms
Regardless of your singing background, this class focuses on learning to sing a Bollywood/light song of your choice (language no bar) preferably along with with a Karaoke track. The only prerequisite to this class would be the willingness to practice daily!
